Now, I wouldn't normally buy electrical goods from Carrefour due to their reputation for after sales services (although I haven't had any problems with them).
However, they have a sale on and we decided on a new washing machine which is priced at €399 reduced from €518 and a sign on saying IVA free. This exact washing machine in Curry's UK is £469 so a hundred quid cheaper at Carrefour which we thought was a good deal.
The system at Carrefour for electrical goods is actually terrible. There are no assistants to help, ask information or purchase an item. You now (and it may have been for some time) have to go the service desk and tell them what you want. They then look it up on line and simply order it for you from the desk. Problem is, it takes ages. You have to take a ticket with a number and they were on number 72. We got number 77 but had to wait over half an hour to be served, not helped by some old dear asking for info on some mixer and seemed determined to have a chat. However, we finally got there and the assistant simply went to the Carrefour website and ordered it which I could have done online if I'd known.
Now the good bit. The price (€399) is not IVA free. You get a voucher (either online or back at the store) which you can redeem within a certain time (ours say Jan 22 to Feb 5) and the amount of IVA on the item you bought is discounted from whatever else you want to buy, in out case a voucher for €72.08 so it's like paying the reduced price and getting more off as well. If you buy it at the store, you can't use the voucher online but only at the store.
They should buck up their ideas on selling the goods (after all, they've really improved the checkout system) but I do like this IVA off bit.
The promotion is going until Jan 21st and applies to everything with the "Promocion Ahorrate IVA" sign on and includes things like furniture and car tyres as well as electrical goods.
Hi strolling can you use your voucher €72-08 on anything in store or only certain departments ??
You also mention tyres , I have seen them in store and they often seem to have offers on them 2x1 etc but wondered who fits them and at how much extra cost , anyone bought them from Carrefour ?
I'm not sure on what you can spend it on. The website says you can't use them for gift vouchers, Playstation games or Apple goods. I will ask when we go in to collect the voucher.
Only some of the tyres have the IVA saving on them, not all. It used to say on the website that the fitting was included and you got them fitted at Feu Vert across the road but it doesn't mention that anymore.
We got our coupon validated today. €71.80 and you can spend it on anything in store. We started looking at some stuff for the home but decided we have everything we need and it would just be spending for the sake of it. I liked a HP wifi printer but, for the number of times I use it, the one I have is sufficient especially after I looked at the price of the ink refills (printer cost €59 and the ink was also €59). Bit of a waste.
They have so much in Carrefour but there really wasn't anything we need and would just be buying something which would be a vanity buy more than anything.
So we went round and filled the trolley with stuff we get from time to time that would keep. Big bag of coffee beans, large (plus special offer) washing powder, softener and so.
Big leg of lamb cut in two, proper parmesan cheese instead of the cheap alternatives. All stuff that we would spend money on at some time but this was like getting it free. Our dinner plates are looking a bit tired now so we did splurge on a new set.
Shame we're both on a non alcohol regime at the moment or I'd have filled up with some of the wine I can't normally afford.
The lady said there were no restrictions and we could spend it on anything in store. Lovely to have a huge trolley full and end up with only paying 3 euro above the cost of the coupon.
Considering the price of the washing machine was very reasonable in the first place this was like having another Christmas.
All sounds like it's worked out well strolling and something to keep an eye on in the future.
By the way if you have trouble spending your voucher in the future my better half says she would gladly help you spend it
