From The Mail Online: Avalon Funeral Boss does a runner.
Wealthy funeral entrepreneur Mike Cooper, who went into business with Elizabeth Emanuel, thought a court case he brought against the royal wedding dress creator was all sewn up.
But, as I revealed, Cooper’s case quickly became unstitched and he lost the three-day hearing at Manchester County Court last month.
He was ordered to pay legal costs of around £100,000 for Elizabeth, who designed Princess Diana’s bridal gown and now trades under the Art Of Being brand. Unfortunately, Cooper — the founder of Avalon, one of the nation’s leading providers of pre-paid funerals — has failed to pay up.
Despite insisting he will ‘respect and abide by the court’s ruling’, Elizabeth’s lawyer Paul Booth has been told that Cooper has gone abroad and has no assets in the UK.
Says Booth: ‘We’re now serving a statutory demand under the Insolvency Act, which is the first step to make him bankrupt.’
